Folsom Lake is El Dorado Hills' backyard — a roughly 75-mile-shoreline reservoir at the foot of the Sierra foothills, just minutes from Serrano. From late spring through early fall it is the center of local life: pontoon cruises and wakeboarding on open water, sandy swim beaches, quiet paddling coves, and some of the closest bass and trout fishing around. Most of the shoreline sits inside the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, which also threads in miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trail. This guide covers where to launch, what to rent, and what to know before you go.
Pontoon boats
The closest rentals to Serrano — pontoons only, launched right from the marina's floating office. Boats come fueled with bimini shade and stereos; staff will even captain you out to a cove at no charge. Weekdays are far less crowded.

Kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard the coves and 75 miles of shoreline. For glassy beginner water, head downstream to no-wake Lake Natoma.

Trout, catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, and kokanee salmon. A California fishing license is required before you cast.
Hiking, mountain-biking, and equestrian trails ring the lake, plus a paved bike path that runs all the way toward Old Sacramento.
Campgrounds at Beals Point and the Peninsula, plus reservable group picnic sites at Granite Bay for lakeside gatherings.
The closest option is Folsom Lake Marina Rentals at Brown's Ravine in El Dorado Hills, which rents pontoon boats. Granite Bay Rentals offers pontoons and ski boats on the north shore, CA Power Toys rents jet skis you tow yourself, and Anchored Eats rents kayaks, paddleboards, and floats right at Granite Bay Main Beach.
Pontoon rentals generally start around $500 for a full day at the marina and scale up with boat size; jet skis run from roughly $250/day, and kayaks or paddleboards start around $20/hour. Prices are seasonal — confirm current rates and deposits directly with each vendor.
Main launch areas are Brown's Ravine (Folsom Lake Marina), Granite Bay, and Folsom Point, generally open 6am–9pm daily. Ramp availability can change with water levels, so check the California State Parks launch status before towing a boat.
Day-use parking is about $12 per vehicle, and trailered or motorized vessels must pass a mussel inspection and may need a valid quarantine/decontamination seal before entering the water. Always verify the current requirements with California State Parks.
